Greenwood School District Considering Another Teacher

-The Greenwood School District may need an extra teacher.

In a recent board meeting, Superintendent Jennifer Vogler brought to the boards attention that the second grade would be too large next year to meet SAGE guidelines for funding.

The SAGE program gives funding to small schools in order to improve low income areas of the state by limiting the number of students in the classroom. In order to be eligible for the program each teacher can have no more than 18 students.

Greenwood is currently receiving $224,000 dollars from the program.

The board must decide if it wants to add another teacher which would allow them to keep the funding or drop the program which would eliminate it.

Board President Bill Herr said the SAGE program helps students get more interaction time with teachers which he thinks is very helpful to them. He even cited recent state testing scores, in which Greenwood students did extremely well in, as evidence of the benefits of the SAGE program.
