FREE LEGAL CLINICS TO BE HELD MONTHLY
Tuesday, December 27th, 2005 -- 2:38 pm
Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director

The Clark County Bar Association is preparing to hold the first of what could be many free legal clinics. Bar Association President Bonnie Wacsmuth of Owen says Clark County residents will be allowed up to 15-minutes to consult with attorneys and get answers to general legal questions.

Wacsmuth says an increasing number of people are choosing to represent themselves, especially in family matters. The clinics will provide a free, no-obligation opportunity for residents to ask attorneys if their cases are worth pursuing and if they should retain legal counsel.

"It's not really intended to get in depth in each case," Wacsmuth says. "Maybe they need to know if they have a case or not. It just is - for a lot of people - cost-prohibitive to have an attorney to appear in court for something."

She says there is a group of around six area attorneys who’ve agreed to rotate during the monthly clinics. She anticipates residents will bring a variety of questions.

"A lot of questions about where to get forms for things, how to fill out the forms that they do have," Wacsmuth says. "Maybe even who the attorneys are in the area."

Residents should bring paperwork or documents associated with their case, but if they already have an attorney, they won’t be able to receive consult.

The first clinic will be held Wednesday, January 11th at the Greenwood Public Library. The clinics will then be held the 2nd Wednesday of each month at different locations around the county. If you’d like more information, call 229-2284.

The rotation will be has follows:

Greenwood - Public Library
Neillsville - Workforce Development (Downtown Professional Building)
Withee - Community Center
Colby - City Hall
