-The City of Neillsville could lose funding for its taxi service.

The City received a call from the department of transportation saying that they are no longer eligible for the 5311 program funding because of the population.
There is a required population level of 2,500 people and according to a 2010 Census, the city is at 2,463 people. So beginning January 1st, the city wasn’t eligible for the funding.

The 5311 program offers $39,500 dollars annually. The city’s current taxi contract runs through 2012 so the funding will continue for now. There are other funding options available, but nothing is decided at this point.
