Recall Elections Wouldn't Happen Until June

-As the efforts to verify names on recall petitions continue, attention now turns to when an election might happen. State leaders are suggesting the soonest it would happen would be in June.

The Government Accountability Board staff is reviewing six recall petitions filed in January against Governor Scott Walker, Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch, and four members of the state senate.

Both Walker and Kleefisch have said they will not challenge any of the signatures. Petition organizers say there are enough names to trigger a recall -- they just need to be verified. But when it comes to determining whether Democrats or Republicans will benefit from the recall election, political experts say "it depends."

"I think that the election will benefit the candidate that seems to have the most momentum at the time the election is held so it's really hard to say now whether the June election will benefit the sitting Governor or a challenger," says political science professor Eric Giordano.

Giordano says he does expect a healthy turnout if there's a recall. He says other factors such as the economic situation and gas prices could also come into place in election turn-out.

The Government Accountability Board has not yet ordered any recall elections to be held.
