FROZEN ROAD LAW IN EFFECT NORTH OF HWY 10
Monday, December 12th, 2005 -- 9:55 am
Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director

Roads in northern Wisconsin will be covered under the state's Frozen Road law come Monday. That means trucks hauling forest products or salt and sand for winter maintenance can carry heavier loads. The Frozen Road Declaration will be in effect for state highways on and north of Highway 10 on Monday, and will be in effect for the remainder of the state on Monday, December 19. The Frozen Road law is implemented once the ground under the pavement is frozen. That allows the maximum gross weight for trucks hauling logs or salt and sand for maintaining roads in winter to increase to 98,000 pounds. Normally, the maximum weight is 80,000 pounds.
