WIAC BB Teams in the NCAA Div. III Tournament

For the second time in history, and first time since 1995, four teams from the WIAC will participate in the NCAA Division III Women’s Basketball Championship while for the second time in four years the WIAC will be represented by three teams in the NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Championship.
The 16th-ranked UW-Eau Claire women's basketball team has received an at large-bid to the 2012 NCAA Division III Championship. The Blugolds (20-6), who are making their 16th overall appearance in the NCAA Championship and first since 2009, will take on Simpson College (Iowa) in the first round of the tournament at 5:30 p.m. Friday. UW-Stevens Point (23-4) will meet Franklin College (Ind.) (25-2) in a first round contest in Grand Rapids, Mich. UW-River Falls (21-6) will face Coe College (Iowa) (20-7) in a first round contest in St. Paul, Minn. UW-Whitewater (22-6) will face Carthage College (Wis.) (20-7) in the first round in Greencastle, Ind.
On the men's side, UW-River Falls will host Edgewood College (Wis.) (22-6) on Friday. UW-Whitewater (23-4) will also host the first and second rounds and open against Northwestern College (Minn.) (17-10). UW-Stevens Point (20-7) will meet Illinois Wesleyan University (19-7) in a first round contest in Holland, Mich.
