Neillsville Girls Win 7th Straight ECC Title

With a win over Owen-Withee last night, the Neillsville Girls Basketball team clinched their 7th straight Eastern Cloverbelt Conference Title.
Neillsville (20-0, 15-0) downed the Blackhawks 42-30 last night behind 10 points from Caitlynne Naughton. Jenny Lindner added 9 and McKenzie Trunkel and Corrina Craig each had 6 points. Owen-Withee (18-3, 13-3) was led by Aleyna Goerlitz with 9 points and Bailey Karaba with 8.
Neillsville led 7-5 after one quarter but then was able to knock down some outside shots in the 2nd quarter and go into the locker room at halftime up 20-11. The Warriors built on the lead in the 3rd quarter outscoring Owen-Withee 16-11 to take a 14 point lead into the final frame. Owen-Withee outscored Neillsville in the 4th quarter 8-6 but Neillsville's lead was much to overcome and the Warriors won 42-30. Owen-Withee came into the game averaging around 62 points a game.
Neillsville has now won 33 Eastern Cloverbelt Conference games in row dating back to February 2010. They look to make it 34 in row on Friday night as they host Colby at the Fieldhouse.
