NO ICE RACES IN HATFIELD

The Hatfield ATV Riders have opted not to host the Central Wisconsin Ice Racing Association-sanctioned event this year because of fundraising struggles over the past few years.
According to the Jackson County Chronicle, Hatfield ATV Riders used the annual event — which would have returned for its 11th year this month — as its main fundraiser.
Dave Esch, president of Hatfield ATV Riders says the group had seen declines in both racers and spectators over the past few years, making organizing and making a profit difficult. The 2010 races drew a profit of $4,500, but last year’s event struggled to break even.
Esch said the club, which has more than 50 members, has yet to organize other fundraisers to take the place of the ice racing event, but he said the group shouldn’t have trouble operating.
