Company Sues E.C. County Over Sand Mine Moratorium

Eau Claire County's ban on new silica sand mines is headed for a court challenge.
On Tuesday, High Country Sand Co., of Winona, Minn., filed a lawsuit requesting the court demand the county review and approve its plans to build a silica sand mine in southeastern Eau Claire County.
The company says it completed the permit application before the county board approved the six-month moratorium. A county official claims an amendment to the moratorium prevents all mines, even those that received permits after the moratorium was approved, from opening.
