There’s a race shaping up for Neillsville Mayor.

2nd Ward Council member Steve Mabie has filed a declaration of candidacy for the position currently held by Dewey Poeschel. Poeschel has also filed paperwork indicating he intends to seek reelection.

3rd Ward Alderman Jerry Quicker intends to seek reelection, but 4th Ward council member Dale Berger has filed a declaration of non-candidacy. So far, no one has stepped forward to run for his seat.

City Clerk Rex Roehl says the wards have shifted a bit, due to the once-a-decade census. We’ve posted a map of the redistricted wards on the news page of our website.

Would-be candidates have until January 3 to file the proper paperwork to appear on the ballot for the Spring Election.
