Neillsville, Pulaski Kids Meet in Cyberspace

Some Neillsville 1st grade students spent a half-hour in Pulaski Friday morning.

Well, not physically.

Every Friday morning, Ms. Jackie Adams’ students in Neillsville connect via Skype with Ms. Jessica Berger’s class in Pulaski, which is just north of Green Bay. Skype is a computer program that lets people video conference, so the kids in Ms. Adams’ class can read and solve problems with the students in Ms. Berger’s class about 150 miles away.

Adams says the kids love it and don’t even realize they’re learning. "A bunch of their teachers do Skyping over there. I asked (Principal) Mr. Rueth and he gave me the thumbs up. The kids absolutely love it," she says.

The Skype sessions are made possible because of the class’ SmartBoard, which is a computer-powered whiteboard.

Adams says the two classrooms connect every Friday morning and focus on math and reading.
