Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director

Governor Doyle is ordering state agencies to turn down thermostats as part of a plan to save energy. The governor says the temperature at the Capitol went down from 72 to 68 today and other state buildings are expected to follow suit. He says he is ordering state agencies to draw up plans to cut utility costs after hours and on the weekends. The governor is also asking state employees to pitch in by turning off their lights and shutting off their computers when they are not in use. Doyle says the state expected to spend 10 (m) million dollars more due to rising energy costs, but the conservation effort will erase some of the increase.
