BLAZE ORANGE ABOUNDS

The 2005 gun-deer season begins Saturday morning. The DNR says there are plenty of whitetails out there waiting to be harvested, but they’re also stressing caution.

There have been several hunting accidents in the area already this year. During the earlier Zone-T hunt, an area man had to be airlifted after falling out of his tree stand and a Granton man accidentally shot a Waukesha hunter in Jackson County.

While most of the laws are unchanged from last deer season, there are a couple of changes that hunters should be aware of. First, with the exception of the CWD Zones, there are no “Earn-A-Buck” rules in effect this year; also, the DNR will be computerizing deer registration data to allow hunters who harvest and register an anterless deer to pre-qualify for Earn-a-Buck, should the rules be enacted next year.
