BIG WEEKEND IN HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS CONTINUES

Several area teams punched their tickets to Level 2 of the WIAA Football Play-offs and Volleyball Sectionals.

In football yesterday, Nekoosa defeated Spencer/Columbus 46 to 26, Bloomer defeated G-E-T 26 to 16, Stratford defeated Grantsburg 39 to 7, Neceedah blanked Osseo-Fairchild 7 to 0, Marathon upset previously unbeaten Athens 27 to 21, C-F-C downed Wisconsin Rapids Assumption 23 to 16, Owen-Withee defeated Pepin/Alma 23 to 16, and Greenwood/Granton handled Elmwood 44 to 8.

That will set up a Cloverwood showdown between Owen-Withee and Greenwood/Granton next weekend at Owen-Withee. The game time will be announced on Monday.

In high school volleyball regional finals last night, it was Marshfield over Rhinelander 3-0, Altoona over Barron 3-1, Medford over Onalaska 3-2, Fall Creek over Arcadia 3-1, Eau Claire Regis over Cameron 3-1, Rib Lake over Winter 3-1, and Owen-Withee over Chippewa Falls McDonell 3-0.

The sectional semi-finals for volleyball will be on Thursday night at 7 pm with the sectional finals on Saturday night at 7 pm.
