BIG GRANTON FFA GROUP HEADS TO CONVENTION

44 Granton FFA students and a dozen adults are heading for the convention this morning.

That’s about 75 percent of the student body. A few of the kids are staying back because the co-op football team with Greenwood has a playoff game this weekend.

The decision to send all the FFAers to the convention was made when it appeared Granton High School would close after this school year. The school board has since decided to keep the school open.

It will be a special convention for adviser Cheryl Steinbach.

After 25 years of teaching, Steinbach will receive an Honorary American Degree.

"That's very humbling for me," she says. "I've seen a lot of changes go through. I've seen a lot of students grow and develop."

The Honorary FFA Degree is the highest honor which the FFA can bestow on a non-member.

"Sometimes, you get so busy doing things that you don't get time to reflect on that value. It's a great reward and it's something that I'll treasure for the rest of my life because it does show you you can make a difference," Steinbach says.
