Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director

The final numbers are in, and 97 percent of the state’s public school districts will lose state aid for the current school year.

According to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, 411 of 424 districts will receive less state funding, with a median decrease of 9.98 percent.

Locally, Greenwood, Granton, Loyal and Neillsville will lose a combined $1.3 million.

Neillsville’s state aid payment is down $640,000 (9.98 percent); Greenwood’s payment is down $285,000 (9.98 percent); Granton’s payment is down $195,500 (9.98 percent); and Loyal’s payment is down $143,000 (3.7 percent).

As required by statute, the DPI estimates general school aid each year in July and then, by Oct. 15, certifies the amount of aid each school district will receive, based on audited school district data. School boards use this aid certification to finalize their property tax levies.
