Wednesday, September 21st, 2011 -- 1:10 pm
Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director

A year after the investigation began, a former Neillsville church treasurer will be sentenced Thursday for stealing money from his congregation.

Authorities alleged John Roenz took at least $140,000 from Calvary Lutheran Church, where he served as treasurer for around 20 years.

In July, Roenz pleaded guilty to two of six charges of theft by bailee and one of six charges of tax fraud. The other counts were dismissed, but can be considered during sentencing.

Visiting Judge Frederic Fleishauer of Portage County will sentence Roenz Thursday morning at 11 a.m.
