FIVE MAIL PROCESSING PLANTS COULD BE CUT

The United States Postal Service is facing major, major changes as they struggle to stay afloat.
Their latest plan to stay solvent would likely slow the delivery time of First Class mail by closing more than half of the agency's 487 mail-processing facilities—a move that would eliminate 35,000 positions.
The postal service has experienced a 25 percent dip in First Class mail volume in the past five years, as more people use e-mail and online bill pay.
The situation is dire.
They project a $10 billion deficit this year and expect to miss a payment due to the federal government for future employee benefits on Sept. 30.
In Wisconsin, the USPS is exploring closing processing facilities in Portage, La Crosse, Eau Claire, Kenosha and Wausau.
