NEILLSVILLE MAN TARGETED IN SWEEPSTAKES SCAM

Authorities are warning area residents of a scam.

A Neillsville man was recently contacted by someone who claimed he had won a Reader’s Digest sweepstakes. The resident was suspicious, but believed it was at least possible.

One catch: the caller told the Neillsville resident he needed to wire money to Jamaica in order to claim his $10,000 prize.

WEAU-TV reports today that an Eau Claire woman was also targeted by a similar scam.

Neither person fell for the scam, and you should remember most legitimate companies will never require you to wire money to them in order to get money in return.
