TRAFFIC CRASHES CLAIM 71 IN AUGUST
Friday, September 9th, 2011 -- 12:40 pm
Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director

Traffic crashes claimed 71 lives in Wisconsin last month, that’s five more than August of last year and above the five-year average of 65 traffic-related fatalities for the month. Through the first eight months of this year, 361 people have died along Wisconsin roadways — seven fewer compared to the same period last year. State safety officials note a 17 percent drop in motorcyclist deaths compared to last year. Still, with the cycle-riding season expected to continue a few more months, traffic safety officials are asking both motorcyclists and other motorists to remain alert for each other, obey traffic laws and utilize safety equipment.
