KIND: BALANCED APPROACH BEST FOR DEFICIT

Western Wisconsin congressman Ron Kind (D-La Crosse) favors a balanced approach to tackling the lengthy and difficult process of getting the nation's fiscal house order.
Kind proposes growing jobs, cutting expenses and raising revenues.
"There are areas in the federal budget we can go to for cost savings that make sense, but won't hurt economic growth at the same time," Kind notes, "that is, I think, the fine line we have to walk."
The tax code needs major revisions, Kind argues.
"The consensus across the nation is we have a tax code that is a monstrosity," Kind says, "it's littered of loopholes and tax breaks for powerful special interests in Washington, not for families and small businesses back home."
Kind also said military spending needs to be on the table, along with reforming Social Security and Medicare, and taxpayer subsidies to large agribusiness.
