LUCKY: HOUSE FIRE KEPT AT BAY BY MELTED WATERLINE

Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director

A house fire in Neillsville yesterday could have been much, much worse.

The Neillsville Fire Department was dispatched to a house at 103 Grand Avenue at around 5:22 p.m.

The crew found smoke exiting the building. The crew got inside and located the fire and extinguished it.

There was some minor structural damage, as well as smoke and water damage. Firefighters spent about 30 minutes at the address.

But, Fire Chief Matt Meyer says the homeowner is very lucky.

He believes the fire was started by an iron that was left plugged in. It fell and burned a hole through the floor. Directly under the floor was a water line. The fire melted the water line, sending water squirting out.

Meyer says that water kept the fire at bay until crews arrived.
