COMP. PLAN COULD GET FINAL VOTE WEDNESDAY NIGHT
Wednesday, June 22nd, 2011 -- 1:13 pm

Nearly a month after the board passed its first reading, the Clark County 2030 Comprehensive Plan will be up for its 2nd, and possibly 3rd, Wednesday night.

At a meeting in Owen last month, the board approved the plan on a 19 to 9 vote.
The plan is passed by ordinance, so supervisors would have to pass a motion to suspend the rules to have the 2nd and 3rd readings tonight. That motion requires a 2/3-majority vote.

Opponents of the measure say it’s an unnecessary land rights’ grab by the county, voters in a 2006 advisory referendum overwhelming said they didn’t want the plan and that it’s part of a U.N. plot to implement a one-world government.

Supporters say the plan is not a regulation; it’s required by state law in order for the county to enforce existing county zoning, shoreland and subdivision ordinances, but doesn’t impact towns or other municipalities.

The controversy has led to a recall effort against plan supporter Steve Okonek of Chili with an election tentatively scheduled for August 2nd.
