Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director

Xcel Energy customers could see their electric rates increase more than expected.

On Friday, the company filed proposed rates for individual customer classes and updated information to its pending application with the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin (PSCW) to set new electricity and natural gas rates effective Jan. 1, 2012.

Xcel Energy wants to increase the proposed electricity rate.

Under the updated proposal, a typical residential electricity customer using 750 kWh per month would see an increase of $4.97 (5.8 percent). Most business electricity customers would see an increase of 3-7 percent depending on their usage and rate class.
