THREE ARRESTED IN HO-CHUNK CONTRACT SCHEME

Three Black River Falls residents face federal bribery charges in connection with contracts awarded by the Ho-Chunk Nation.

A federal grand jury Wednesday indicted 59-year-old Timothy Whiteagle, 54-year-old Deborah Atherton and 52-year-old Clarence Pettibone.

The indictment alleges from 2002 to 2009, Whiteagle acted as a behind-the-scenes consultant for clients seeking to do business with Ho-Chunk Nation. Whiteagle allegedly received over $3 million from those clients.

Pettibone has served as an elected legislator of the nation. Prosecutors say Whiteagle gave Pettibone money and valuables, and Whiteagle and Atherton solicited clients wanting Ho-Chunk business to do the same.

It's unclear if the three have attorneys.
