MAN DIES AFTER DIVING IN CHIPPEWA RIVER

A 34-year-old Eau Claire area man is dead after he dove from a cliff into the Chippewa River Sunday.
The mishap occurred on the north end of Lake Wissota.
The man was on a pontoon with friends. They stopped near some cliffs and he climbed to the top and dove in. Witnesses say he didn't resurface.
Divers found him and took him to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Another person died after diving off the same cliffs two years ago.
