BIG FOOD DRIVE THIS SATURDAY

Helping feed those in need will be as simple as walking to your mailbox on Saturday.

The National Association of Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is coming up Saturday, May 14th. The 19th annual event has become the largest one-day food drive in the country.

Area residents should have received some bags in the mail that can be used to donate food. Neillsville Postmaster Lisa Schilling says area residents are always generous.

"Last year we had 5,715 pounds (donated)," she raves. "It was the most we've ever had."

You can leave your donations of non-perishable food items right at your mailbox, but Schilling says they appreciate it when people drop items off at the Post Office.

"It makes it easier...otherwise you have to send out more people to collect," Schilling says. "But if you can't make it in, just leave it at your mailbox and we'll be there to collect it."

Schilling gives area letter carriers praise for their hard work on the drive every year, and notes a number of area businesses help, as do about 20 volunteers. The donations go to local food pantries.
