CLARK COUNTY'S PROPOSED BUDGET WOULD CUT 16 POSITIONS; LOWER TAX RATE
Wednesday, October 12th, 2005 -- 2:51 pm Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director
The proposed budget, recently presented to county board members, would increase the amount of money generated through local property taxes by $231,000 to $10.97-million. Still, next year’s tax rate would fall from $7.69-per thousand dollars of property this year to $7.50 next year, due to a $65-million increase in property value. Earlier this year, county employees received a letter warning of possible lay-offs due to the projected $1.3-million budget shortfall. The budget proposal does include sixteen lay-offs, including five Health Care Center employees, two highway department personnel and two Sheriff’s Department personnel. The Clark County Press reports county board members were told last week that those lay-offs could result in emergency response and snow plowing delays. The budget will go to public hearing on November 15th.
