RECOUNT TAKING LONGER THAN EXPECTED

The statewide recount of the April 5 Wisconsin Supreme Court race got underway Wednesday and an area clerk says it’s taking them a lot longer than expected.

Clark County Clerk Christina Jensen hoped to finish the recount by the end of the day Thursday, or possibly on Friday; she adjusted those estimates after the Board of Canvass got through only 13 of 64 precincts on their first day.

At this pace, there will be a full day of counting Thursday, Friday and possibly some more on Monday.

Taxpayers pay the cost of the recount because Justice David Prosser’s margin of victory was less than one-half of one-percent over Assistant Attorney General Joanne Kloppenburg. The Board of Canvass, comprised of Jensen and one Democrat and one Republican, get paid $10 per hour.

Jensen expects the total bill might be close to $2,000.

As for the results, Prosser lost five votes yesterday due to clerical errors.
