Volunteers in Marshfield are assembling 100,000 meals to deliver to starving children around the world.

Zion United Methodist Church is teaming up with Twin Cities-based Feed My Starving Children to produce the meals, which will be shipped to one of 70 countries around the world.

"It is a rice-based meal," explains Andrew Ulasich, a supervisor for the project. "It gives them energy, a soy-protein, dehydrated vegetables and a chicken flavoring that's fortified with about 20 different vitamins and minerals."

The meals will be shipped to malnourished kids around the world, including Haiti.

The process helps spread the message that 18,000 children die of hunger every day.

"Part of what we do is just educate people about the extent of hunger and starvation around the World. It's a terrible thing. To be able to education and give people the opportunity to contribute and serve is a very unique thing," he says.

They actually have enough volunteers to produce the meals, but they will accept donations to offset their costs. To learn more, you can visit fmsc.org.
