A legendary area figure has passed away.

We understand that former Granton ag teacher, author and radio host Francis Steiner has passed away at the age of 85.

Steiner taught agriculture education for 39 years in Granton, but was known around the state and country for his public relations work on behalf of the ag industry.

He hosted a farm interview radio show for WCCN for 23 years. He had a column in The Country Today farm newspaper every week until this past December and chaired the Granton Fall Fest Committee for 50 years.

A memorial in Francis Steiner's memory will be established by the Granton FFA program. Funeral services are still pending.
