A group that began in Neillsville continues to work to better the lives of the residents of Kenya, Africa. “Friends of Kenya – Wisconsin” will literally be shipping 4-tons of books to Ktiouai Town, Kenya next week.

The books were gathered during a 2-year bookdrive in the area where around 3,900 text books, childrens’ books and other literary works were collected. They’ve since been boxed and sitting in the basement of the group’s secretary, Jim Alexander of Marshfield.

Now, a group called “Love Packages” has agreed to ship the books to Kenya on October 15th. Alexander says the group is also working on a pen pal program between elementary students in Nasonville and Ktiouai Town students. Martha Jalbert of Neillsville and Jim Ratsch, formerly of Neillsville, serve as the President and Vice President of the group.
