GRANTON SCHOOL BOARD, TEACHERS REACH AGREEMENT

An area school is the latest to reach an agreement with their teachers to extend their collective bargaining agreement, but with major concessions.

Granton’s school board held an emergency meeting Thursday night to approve a one-year extension of the current collective bargaining agreement with an attached Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that will freeze teacher wages, require them to pay 5.8% toward their pension and at least 12.6% toward their health insurance premium.

The MOU also states the board and union will work together to try to achieve further cost savings in their health care plan.

The union also agreed to add teacher performance as an equally weighted factor with seniority in determining potential layoffs.

Under Governor Scott Walker’s budget proposal, Granton Area Schools would lose over $528,000 in state and local revenue over the next two years.
