UW STEVENS POINT BASEBALL PICKED TO WIN WIAC

University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point is the preseason favorite to secure the 2011 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) baseball championship according to the league’s sports information directors.
The Pointers received four first-place votes in the conference poll and have captured eight first-place trophies in program history. UW-Stevens Point is coming off a 2010 campaign that had them reach the finals of the NCAA Division III Championship for the third time in the last five years. The Pointers are ranked No. 2 nationally in a preseason poll conducted by D3baseball.com and will field a starting lineup that includes a junior or senior at every position.
Also in the Pointer line-up is Cain Trunkel of Neillsville. The freshman right hander will be a member of the Pointer pitching staff.
U.W. Stevens Point will get their season underway this Saturday morning when they take on Oglethorpe (GA) in Auburndale, Florida. You can follow Pointer baseball online at athletics.uwsp.edu
