DNR TO CONSIDER ALLOWING KILLING PROBLEM COUGARS

The Wisconsin Natural Resources Board will consider allowing residents to shoot cougars if they're attacking livestock.

After a decades-long absence, at least four cougars have been confirmed in the Badger State in the past three years. The animals are currently a protected species in Wisconsin. No one can shoot or trap one without first getting permission from the DNR.

But under a proposed rule, landowners, their family members and their employees would be allowed to shoot cougars in the act of attacking a domestic animal.

The proposal will go to public hearing before board consideration.
