AREA STUDENTS' VETERANS PROJECTS ON DISPLAY

The Highground’s Learning Center is featuring an exhibit of area students’ class projects about veterans.

"Right now, we have seven different schools that have brought in materials," explains June Berg, the Learning Center Coordinator.

The projects include written and video interviews, poetry, books and musical selections.

All too often we tend to think of veterans in collective terms, but this exhibit puts faces and names to stories; the result is a more “personal” experience, she says.

"Our children really have a grasp on what's going on, more than I think a lot of people think," Berg says.

Highground General Manager Kirk Rodman says the Learning Center has been serving its purpose.

"It's changed the way we present things and it's given us more of an opportunity to serve the surrounding area," he says. "We were handicapped before in our ability to actually educate people because we had to do it outside without the benefit of teaching aids. We can do that here."

The Learning Center is open daily from 10-5. This exhibit will be on display through the end of the month.
