Republican lawmakers say requiring voters to show photo identification at the polls will stop voter fraud.
They've fast-tracked a bill that would make it mandatory.
Lawmakers are circulating a piece of legislation for co-sponsorship and Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald said getting it passed is one of his first priorities for the Senate.
Democrats long opposed the measure, saying it would disenfranchise voters.
