WILD WISCONSIN WEATHER BLAMED ON RANDOM WEATHER PATTERNS, NOT GLOBAL WARMING
Thursday, September 15th, 2005 -- 11:42 am
Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director

Tuesday night’s tornado will bring the state’s total to nearly 60 for the year – shattering the previous record of 43 set in 1980. Almost 30 of this year’s twisters touched down on August 18th. Shea says it’s been a “strange” weather year. While most of the state is experiencing moderate drought conditions, when it rained it poured.

Shea believes weather is cyclical and this year’s severe weather is less the result of global warming than of naturally random patterns.

"We tend to have the tornado numbers increasing, but that's not directly related to Mother Nature. It's also related to more dopplar radars out there, better responder networks - there are just a lot more people out there watching for these phenomena," Shea says.

And although we're half-way through September, we may not be out of the woods yet. Shea recalls a tornado struck Wisconsin on the final day of September back in 2002.
