JUDGE RULES AGAINST WOLF KILL
Thursday, September 15th, 2005 -- 11:35 am
Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director

A federal judge has blocked Wisconsin and Michigan from killing wolves that attack livestock or pets. The Humane Society of the United States and 18 other environmental groups filed a lawsuit last month. It accused the Fish and Wildlife Service of issuing lethal control permits to the two states without giving the public an opportunity to comment. The permits authorized state officials to kill 34 wolves in Wisconsin this year and 20 in Michigan. A federal judge in Michigan voided the permits and ordered the agency to go through the correct procedure for considering them.
