CITY OF LOYAL TO GET TOUGH ON UTILITY BILLS

The City of Loyal is ready to get tough on residents who aren’t paying their utility bills.

According to the week’s TRG, this year’s books show the city has $26,000 in delinquent water bills from 48 customers.

Current city ordinance allows for the action, but the city had not been enforcing the rule. This year, they’ve seen a huge increase in delinquencies, and have been forced to transfer the $26,000 on to the property tax bills. That prompted the city council last week to unanimously approve a recommendation to take action.

The first shut-offs could occur by early March.
