"CHRISTMAS SHOP" RAISES MONEY FOR FOOD PANTRY

A fundraiser at Granton Elementary School is raising money for a good cause.
4-K teacher Ron Klein says the Christmas Shop has been a big success. Families donate used items they may have around the house. 4-K through 5th graders get to come in and purchase the items for between .25-cents and $2.00. Volunteers then wrap the presents and the kids give them to friends and loved ones.
"The first year, it was very small. We only raised around $300. It's grown every year," Klein says. "In three years we've raised just under $1,500. This year, our goal to raise over $500."
All the money raised goes right to the Granton Food Pantry.
"It's been wonderful. (They) use it to buy fresh produce or meat for families this time of year," he says.
Klein says the Christmas Shop features an assortment of tools, stuffed animals, and paintings.
"We have all sorts of interesting things that come in. It's always interesting to see the kids come in there and pick out things to buy. I've seen students come in and buy a salt and pepper shaker set, and then gave them to two different grandparents on different sides of the family," Klein recalls. "(It's nice) just to see that excitement kids have."
Klein says they’ve already raised around $450 in three days, and the store is still open to students through Friday.
