MARSHFIELD MAN SUCCOMBS TO COLD
Tuesday, December 14th, 2010 -- 1:56 pm Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director
From the Wisconsin Radio Network:
A Marshfield man died in the weekend snow-storm, when he attempted to walk home after getting stuck in a snow-bank. Marshfield police chief Gary Jepsen says 37-year-old Jamie Scheel had a heart attack induced by hypo-thermia, after falling into a snow-bank while walking through a field early Sunday morning.
"You can have multiple organs shut down due to the condition of the body," Jepsen explains. "Hypothermia is systemic in nature. Once your body gets down to a certain body temperature, all your organs can fail."
Jepsen says Scheel was lightly dressed--just shoes, but no socks, and no jacket.
Scheel's body was found shortly after eight o-clock Sunday morning. He leaves behind a wife and three children.
Scheel was originally from Loyal.
