As we head toward the holidays, it’s important to remember that times are tough for many folks around the country.
Donna Wishowski of [http://www.indianheadcaa.org]Indianhead Community Action Agency[/url] says they’ve seen a huge up-tick in people needing help.
"I've just been doing community services for two years for Indianhead. Since I started, food pantry usage has tripled in each of our (six) counties," she notes.
Some struggling families may be reluctant to take advantage of services.
"One thing we're telling people who are laid off, who have a reduction of hours--whatever their situation is--by utilizing the food pantry, they can save money to help save their electric bill," Wishowski explains. "You can't pay your electric bill any other way, but by coming to the food pantry, you can help stretch your food dollars to survive and get through this time."
Indianhead just moved their Clark County office from Owen to downtown Neillsville. They opened last Wednesday.
Wishowski says Aside from a food pantry and thrift store, Indianhead has staff trained to help low income and disadvantaged residents of Clark County access a number of programs and services.
They’re open Mon., Tues, Thurs, and Fri. 8:30 to 4:30. Wed. 8:30 to 7:00 and the first Sat. of every month from 9 to 1.
