RIFT BETWEEN MAYOR, POLICE IN ARCADIA
Friday, December 3rd, 2010 -- 11:44 am
Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director

The La Crosse Tribune has an interesting story about growing tension between the Mayor of Arcadia and the Police Department. The Police Chief there claims Mayor John Kimmel ordered officers to direct traffic near an intersection near a school only after he received a warning for parking in a spot reserved for police vehicles. Arcadia police say the intersection is too dangerous for one officer to control—in fact, they liken it to the video game “Frogger”—and they say the Mayor knows it, but still issued the order in apparent retaliation for the ticket. According to police reports, Kimmel was "extremely upset" about the warning, and the officer later heard Kimmel saying police may not like it but "they answer to me." The Police Chief there says the mayor’s reaction was inappropriate.
