WOMEN THWART PHONE SCAM
Monday, November 29th, 2010 -- 10:17 am Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director
A would-be scammer didn’t fool a couple of Neillsville area women last week.
Both women received a call from a man claiming to be their grandchild. The caller stated he was in Spain and had been in an accident. During one call, the man requested $2,900 be wired to him.
Neither woman fell for the trick, but it’s a good reminder to be cautious.
The so-called “grandparents scam” has claimed plenty of victims, even some locally.
One of the women asked specific questions of the caller, which proved he wasn’t who he said he was.
