SAND MINE LOOKS TO EXPAND

Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director

A Jackson County-based mining company plans to expand as the demand for resin-coated silica sand continues to explode.

Atlas Resin Proppants already has three facilities, including one in Merrillan, which just started shipping product late last month. Now officials say the company could add the equivalent of a fourth plant by 2012 or early 2013.

Resin-coated sand is used by the oil and natural gas industries. Company officials say they’ve seen strong demand for the product.
