A Loyal man convicted of arson avoided prison time at a sentencing hearing on Friday.

According to court documents, Timothy Olson, 47, set fire to his girlfriend’s Granton area house in an attempt to defraud the insurance company.

The case was solved, thanks in part to surveillance video from a tractor dealership located across the highway that showed Olson’s vehicle pull into the driveway. A short time later, there was a flash of light, and the car left.

Substitute Judge James Mason sentenced Olson to one year in Clark County Jail with huber privileges and 200 hours of community service. He’ll also pay 7% of his wages toward court obligations and restitution. He had faced 40 years in prison and $100,000 in fines.
