An area assemblyman is rumored to be one of two candidates vying to become Assembly Majority leader.

Rep. Scott Suder quietly won reelection Tuesday. He didn’t even have a Democratic opponent.

Republicans will have at least a 59-38 majority in the Assembly. There will be 25 new Republican members there. The GOP will control the Senate 19-14.

Media reports today say State Sen. Scott Fitzgerald, R-Juneau is expected to be the next Senate majority leader, and his brother, Rep. Jeff Fitzgerald, R-Horicon, is expected to be the next speaker in the Assembly. Reps. Mark Gottlieb of Port Washington and Scott Suder of Abbotsford are competing to be majority leader in the Assembly.

Senate Dems and Republicans are caucusing today. Assembly Republicans will caucus on Monday.
