WAITING ON THE WIND

Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director

As of 11:30 a.m., it wasn't too bad around here just yet, but high winds were already blasting southern Wisconsin.

A possible tornado damaged homes, uprooted large trees and pulled off part of the roof from an industrial plant Tuesday morning in Racine County.

The damage was part of the leading edge of a windstorm that is expected to encompass the entire state today.

About 8,000 customers in southeastern Wisconsin were without power as of about 9 a.m.

We have a strong wind warning in effect for virtually the entire state as an extremely low, low pressure system moves in.

Forecasters say winds with sustained speeds of 40 mph are expected with gusts of up to 60 mph.

Forecasters predict the storm could be one of the most powerful and widespread in more than a decade, in fact, the pressure readings have already sunk below levels experienced during a deadly windstorm in November of 1998.
