LOYAL SCHOOL BOARD IDs POTENTIAL CUTS

Yesterday, we told you the Loyal School Board would be forced to consider a number of cuts if voters don’t approve a revenue cap exemption referendum next month.

We can now elaborate.

According to documents available to district residents at their annual meeting, nearly $642,000 in potential cuts have been found.

That figure includes $161,000 in savings if all of the district’s sports programs were cut for 2011-2012.

Other significant savings would come with the elimination of an Ag teacher, computer lab assistant, custodian, FACE teacher, Instrumental Music instructor, Spanish Teacher and Tech Ed. Teacher.

Superintendent Graeme Williams told us Tuesday the list wasn’t meant as a scare tactic, and he acknowledged not all the cuts would happen next year.

The referendum, up for a vote in November, would allow the district to exceed the state-imposed revenue cap by $697,000 per year for the next four years. If passed, the referendum would mean a $394 tax increase on a $100,000 property value the first year.
